Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of a brush fire that burned Tuesday afternoon in northern Los Angeles County.
The Hilary Fire was reported near 40th Street and Barrel Springs Road near Palmdale. It swelled to 74 acres before crews were able to get a handle on it.

Some evacuation warnings were issued in the area. An evacuation warning indicates residents should prepare to evacuate if an evacuation order is issued.
As of 3:45 p.m., however, the forward progress of the fire was stopped.
