New features for Search, Shorts and Studio
YouTube has announced a number of new features for viewers and content producers. The focus is on personalized feeds, AI-powered tools for video editing as well as additional functions for YouTube Studio and the protection of your own digital identity.
YouTube wants to align the recommendations on its platform more closely with the specific wishes of users. In the future, it will be possible to create individual feeds using text input. The company mentions possible requests, for example, podcasts for a certain duration, longer documentaries or recommendations for new channels in a specific subject area.
It should be possible to save several such feeds on the homepage. According to YouTube, the recommendations contained therein are then automatically updated. This means users don’t have to re-enter their interests every time.
The “Ask YouTube” function should also be expanded. In the future, the service will help with product recommendations, among other things. Further innovations are planned for searching for music and podcasts.
Shorts get seasons and episodes
For YouTube Shorts, the platform is introducing a way to organize related videos as seasons and episodes. The function is aimed primarily at creators who produce ongoing stories or short series.
This should make it easier for viewers to follow such content in the intended order. YouTube is also responding to formats in which short videos are no longer published exclusively as individual clips.
AI should help with video editing
New tools are also planned for the production of shorts and videos. A dialog-based editing system will be available in Shorts and the YouTube Create app.
According to YouTube, creators can first use a suggested or self-formulated prompt to create a first cut. The result should then be able to be changed further via a chat. For example, the system can suggest shortening breaks or rearranging individual sections. Manual editing remains possible.
YouTube is not only using generative AI to produce individual content, but also increasingly as an assistance system for the actual production process.
New features for YouTube Studio
YouTube Studio also receives additional tools. The platform is intended to give creators personalized advice on initial video drafts and support them in creating thumbnails. Preview images should be based on the previous appearance of a channel.
Another innovation concerns A/B testing. Creators should be able to compare up to three different versions of a video. According to YouTube, in this way you can investigate which variant keeps viewers’ attention longer.
YouTube Studio is intended to serve more as a central environment for production, publication and evaluation of a channel.
Face and voice recognition
At the same time, YouTube is expanding its protection functions for creators. The previously announced similarity recognition will be available on smartphones. Users can register for the function and then receive notifications when the system detects corresponding matches.
YouTube also wants to combine voice recognition with facial recognition. This is intended to make it possible to more precisely identify content in which a person’s appearance or voice has been reproduced. The topic is becoming particularly important thanks to AI-generated videos and voices.
More tools for collaborations with brands
Changes are also planned in the marketing of content. Companies should be able to find suitable channels through YouTube creator partnerships. The “Ask Studio” function is intended to support creators in editing brand briefings and creating documents for possible collaborations.
YouTube Shopping should remain another source of income. YouTube says it plans to expand the associated affiliate program to 35 countries by the end of the year. Amazon will be added as a partner in additional international markets.
Product tags should also be adjusted depending on the location of the viewer. This can be used, for example, to display different local dealers or offers.
YouTube is increasingly relying on AI functions
Die announced innovations This affects several areas of the platform at the same time. AI will be used in content search, video production, channel management and marketing. At the same time, YouTube is expanding its functions for recognizing artificially generated images and voices.
YouTube’s information does not indicate when all of the announced functions will be available in Germany. YouTube does not specify a separate price for the new functions.
