Business News Live: AI won’t replace Infosys, but will amplify those who adapt, says Nandan Nilekani
Infosys says AI services revenue has crossed an annualised $1 billion as the company deepens partnerships with leading AI and computing firms.
At the 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Infosys, Chairman Nandan Nilekani said artificial intelligence is reshaping the technology landscape but is unlikely to replace companies that successfully adapt to the shift.
“AI will not replace a company like ours but amplify who move with purpose,” Nilekani told shareholders, emphasizing that the technology is creating opportunities for firms that can leverage it effectively.
He noted that the rapid rise of AI has accelerated the need for enterprises to upgrade legacy technology systems.
“The AI revolution has made legacy modernization urgent in a way nothing else has,” he said.
Nilekani also suggested that enterprises are increasingly likely to develop software in-house rather than rely solely on external purchases.
“The preference will be to build versus buy for software,” he said, adding that future value creation would come from integrating AI-driven systems with traditional enterprise infrastructure.
“Value will come from combining the world of models, agents with traditional transaction systems,” he added.
Speaking at the AGM, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said AI-led technology modernization is emerging as one of the company’s largest growth opportunities.
“Modernization of technology using agents is one of the largest areas today,” Parekh said.
He highlighted Infosys’ domain expertise as a key differentiator in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.
“Domain knowledge is really the value that we are bringing,” he said.
Parekh also revealed that Infosys is working closely with major global AI and computing firms as enterprises accelerate AI adoption.
“All big frontier AI and compute companies are working with Infosys closely,” he said.
Underscoring the commercial momentum in the company’s AI business, Parekh said Infosys has already achieved significant scale in AI-related services.
“We already see about annualised $1 bn of AI services revenue, growing at a very good pace,” he said.
