The new Bundesliga season is only a few match days old and is already extremely high in goals. If this trend continues, we could even have a new goalscoring record at the end of the season.
The new old Bundesliga ball lives up to its name “Torfabrik”. On the first four Bundesliga matchdays, he has already been pushed into the goal 137 times – a figure that has only been exceeded twice in the history of the Bundesliga: in the 1984/85 season, 140 goals were scored in the same period, and in 2023/24 there were 138.
Already on matchday 1, the net fidgeted six times in two games: in the opening game between the FC Bayern Munich and that VfB Stuttgart as well as the spectacular 3:3 between the 1. FC Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt. There were also three other pairings with five goals: Cologne against Hoffenheim, Elversberg against Leverkusen (3:2 each) and Freiburg against Bremen (4:1).

The total of 35 goals on matchday 1 were even exceeded by one goal the following week. This makes the second matchday the highest-scoring matchday of the season so far. However, the highest-scoring games were in the most recent round: Bayern gave Union Berlin seven goals on Friday evening, and things were a little more even with a 4-3 win Borussia Mönchengladbach and that 1. FSV Mainz 05albeit with a worse ending for the foals.
There are currently an average of 3.8 goals per game. If this average holds until the end of the season, it would be a new Bundesliga record. The previous figure is 3.6 goals per game in a full season, set in 1983/84, when 1,097 goals were scored in 306 games.

Lots of goals, lots of scorers
Whether this record will actually be broken remains to be seen. However, there is already a remarkable number of players who have three or four goals to their name after four matchdays, eleven in total. Michael Olise, Yuito Suzuki, Phillip Tietz, Younes Ebnoutalib and Patrik Schick lead the top scorers list with four goals this season, the latter was the only one to spread his goals across all four matchdays.
What is striking is that the top scorers from last season are not even included in this series: Harry Kane met “only” three times, Deniz Undav not yet and Serhou Guirassy twice. They alone contributed a whopping 72 goals in 2025/26. So it’s quite possible that their goal rate will increase in the weeks after the international break.

New start records for Freiburg and Augsburg
It is also noteworthy that ten teams, more than half, have eight or more goals this season and have therefore scored on average at least twice per game. FC Bayern is once again the leader in this category with 14 goals, followed by Sport-Club Freiburg at twelve and that FC Augsburg with eleven goals – a new club record for both after four match days.
At the sports club it’s mainly Suzuki Igor Matanović (three goals this season), which is causing a stir at FCA, of course Michael Gregoritsch (also three), who replaced FCA legend Alfreð Finnbogason as Bundesliga record goalscorer with his goals 37 and 38 on matchday 3.
More top scorers in form
They are also particularly keen on scoring goals Niclas Füllkrug after his return to SV Werder Bremen as well as the one appointed to the national team by Jürgen Klopp Jonathan Burkardt. Both scored once on the last three matchdays. The last one in the league with three goals this season is Elversbergs Maurice Krattenmacherwho attracted a lot of attention with his brace in Mönchengladbach and his dream goal against Bayern.
The “Torfabrik” Bundesliga is now taking a break for three weeks. After that, production should pick up speed again and continue towards the goal record from the 1983/84 season.
